Effective date: 4 October 2026
Knife Kite helps Australian trades and home services businesses win more work from the enquiries they already get. To do that, we handle personal information about the people we talk to, the businesses we work with, and sometimes those businesses’ own customers.
This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can access it, correct it or complain. We’ve written it in plain English. If anything is unclear, please ask us.
Who we are
Knife Kite is a business operated by Scott Feeney, a sole trader based in New South Wales.
- Legal name: Scott Feeney trading as Knife Kite
- ABN: 92 721 361 463 (registered for GST)
- Address: 163 North Forbes Road, Condobolin NSW 2877
- Email: scott@knifekite.com
In this policy, “Knife Kite”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Scott Feeney trading as Knife Kite. “You” means anyone whose personal information we handle.
The law we follow
This policy is based on the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Some small businesses are not required to comply with the Privacy Act. Whether or not that exemption applies to us, we have chosen to handle personal information in line with the APPs, because we think it’s the right way to run a business that looks after other people’s enquiries.
What personal information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you deal with us. It may include:
- Contact details, such as your name, business name, phone number, email address, suburb or service area, and website.
- Business details, such as your trade, the services you offer, your ABN, your Google Business Profile and how you currently handle enquiries.
- Call information, such as phone numbers, call times, call recordings, call transcripts and notes about what was discussed.
- Messages, such as the content of SMS and emails you send us or that we send you.
- Booking details, such as the time you choose for a call and anything you tell us when you book.
- Payment and billing details, such as your billing name, billing address and the last four digits of your card. Full card numbers are handled by our payment processor, not us (see “Payments” below).
- Website usage information, such as pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location and how you arrived at our site (see “Cookies and Google Analytics” below).
- Your customers’ enquiry details, if you are a client (see “Information we handle for our clients” below).
We don’t intend to collect sensitive information (such as health information or details about religion or political views). Please don’t send it to us. If it reaches us anyway, for example in a call or message, we’ll only keep it if it’s reasonably needed for the purpose you gave it to us.
You can deal with us without giving your name, for example when asking a general question. But we usually need contact details to book a call, give you a quote or provide our services.
How we collect it
We collect personal information in these ways.
Website forms and our booking calendar
When you fill in a form on our website or book a free Job Leak Audit call through our booking calendar, we collect the details you enter. We use them to contact you, run the call and follow up afterwards.
Phone calls
When you call us, or we call you, the call may be answered, recorded or transcribed by our call handling and recording systems. We do this so we can respond accurately, keep a record of what was agreed, and improve our service. Where the law requires it, we’ll tell you at the start of a call that it may be recorded. If you’d prefer a call not to be recorded, let us know and we’ll do our best to help another way, such as by email.
SMS
We may send you text messages about an enquiry, a booking or our services. You can opt out of marketing texts at any time by replying STOP. We may still send you a message confirming your opt-out, or texts that relate directly to services you’ve bought from us.
We collect information you send us by email and keep records of our email conversations.
Outbound prospecting to businesses
We contact trades and home services businesses that we think could benefit from our services. To find them, we use business contact details that are publicly listed, such as on a business website, Google Business Profile or online directory. We may also look at public Google reviews of the business to understand how it handles enquiries and to tailor what we say.
We only aim to contact people in their business role, using business contact details. If we’ve contacted you this way and you’d rather we didn’t, reply to tell us, reply STOP to a text, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or email scott@knifekite.com. We’ll record your request and stop contacting you for marketing.
From our clients
When a business signs up with us, they give us onboarding information about their business, and their customers’ enquiries may flow through the systems we set up for them.
Why we collect, use and disclose it
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiries and book calls, including Job Leak Audit calls
- prepare audits, proposals and quotes
- provide our Launch and Dominate packages and other services to clients
- handle enquiries for our clients, on their behalf
- process payments and send invoices and receipts
- send you service messages, such as booking reminders and account updates
- send you marketing about our services, where the law allows it (you can opt out at any time)
- understand how our website is used, so we can improve it
- keep records, meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations and resolve disputes
- protect our business and the people we deal with from fraud and misuse
We only use or disclose personal information for the purpose we collected it, a related purpose you would reasonably expect, or another purpose the law allows.
Information we handle for our clients
Many of our services involve handling enquiries from our clients’ customers. For example, someone might call or message a plumber we work with, and that call or message is handled through systems we’ve set up for the plumber.
When we handle that information, we do it as a service provider to our client. We act on their instructions and use the information to provide our services to them, not for our own marketing. The client remains responsible for its relationship with its customers, including telling them how their information is handled.
If you’re a customer of one of our clients and have a question about your information, please contact that business first. You’re also welcome to contact us and we’ll help where we can.
Payments
We use Stripe as our payment processor. When you pay us, your card details go directly to Stripe. We don’t store full card numbers. We may see limited details such as your name, billing address, card type, the last four digits of your card and the payment amount, so we can manage your account and invoices.
Stripe handles your payment information under its own privacy policy, available at https://stripe.com/privacy.
Who we share it with
We may share personal information with:
- trusted third-party service providers that host our customer management, messaging and scheduling systems, including the systems used for phone calls, SMS, email and bookings
- Stripe, our payment processor
- Google, for website analytics (see below)
- contractors who help us deliver our services, such as web designers or copywriters, where they need the information to do their job
- our professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers
- our clients, where we’ve handled an enquiry on their behalf
- government agencies or others, where the law requires or allows it
We expect the people and organisations we share information with to protect it and use it only for the purpose we gave it to them.
We don’t sell personal information.
Overseas disclosure
Some of the service providers we use store or process information outside Australia. This means your personal information may be stored in the United States and other countries where those providers or their data centres are located.
Before we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps, as required by APP 8, to make sure the recipient handles it in a way that is consistent with the APPs. This usually means choosing established providers with published privacy and security commitments.
Cookies and Google Analytics
Our website uses cookies. Cookies are small files saved on your device that help a website work and help us understand how it’s used.
We use Google Analytics to see things like how many people visit our site, which pages they view and how they found us. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information and Google may process it on servers outside Australia. We use this information in summary form to improve our website. We don’t use it to identify you personally.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. You can also stop Google Analytics from collecting your information by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Our booking calendar and forms may also use cookies so they work properly.
Direct marketing
We may send you marketing about our services by email, SMS or phone, where the law allows it.
We follow the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth). This means our marketing emails and texts identify us and include a way to unsubscribe, and we check the Do Not Call Register where it applies.
You can opt out at any time by:
- clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
- replying STOP to any marketing text
- telling us on a call
- emailing scott@knifekite.com
We aim to action opt-out requests promptly, and within the time the law requires. After you opt out, we may still contact you about services you’ve bought from us or questions you’ve asked.
How we keep it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, changes or disclosure. These steps include:
- using reputable service providers with security controls in place
- limiting access to people who need it to do their work
- using passwords and two-step sign-in where available
- not storing full card numbers
No system is completely secure, so we can’t promise that information will never be accessed without permission. If a data breach happens that is likely to cause serious harm, we’ll respond in line with our legal obligations, which may include notifying affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
How long we keep it
We keep financial records, such as invoices, payments and receipts, for at least five years as required by law. We keep client agreements and client records for up to seven years after our services end.
If you’ve agreed to hear from us, we keep that consent while we’re in touch with you and for a short time after. If you unsubscribe or ask us to stop contacting you, we keep a record of that so we don’t contact you again.
Information about enquiries and prospective clients who don’t go on to work with us is deleted or de-identified once we no longer need it, usually within about two years.
Call recordings, messages and other data we handle on a client’s behalf are kept as set out in our agreement with that client. If the agreement doesn’t say, we keep them while the client is with us and delete them after they leave.
We keep other personal information only for as long as we need it, after which we take reasonable steps to securely delete or de-identify it.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (APP 12) and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong, out of date or incomplete (APP 13).
To make a request, email scott@knifekite.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. We aim to respond within 30 days. We don’t charge for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable fee for providing access in some cases, and we’ll tell you before we do.
If we refuse a request, we’ll explain why in writing and tell you how to complain.
Making a complaint
If you think we’ve mishandled your personal information, please tell us first so we can try to fix it.
- Email scott@knifekite.com with details of your concern.
- We’ll acknowledge your complaint and look into it.
- We aim to respond within 30 days.
If you’re not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
- Website: https://www.oaic.gov.au
- Phone: 1300 363 992
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if our services or the law change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we may also let clients know directly.
